New Student Orientation (NSO)

New Student Orientation (NSO) is one of your most important first steps in making a successful transition into college life. It provides the new student with personal connections with LSCC staff and faculty members, with other new students, and with campus resources. Students will learn about differences between high school and college; time commitment; level of work required; and student expectations, rights, and responsibilities. In addition, students will learn about the many support services available to help them succeed at LSCC.

For Leesburg and South Lake students, academic advising for your first semester will be included in your NSO session, so you do not need to schedule a separate appointment. You will learn which courses you are eligible to take, based on your placement scores, as you begin your college. While you will not actually register for classes at NSO, you will be shown how to navigate the online course search and how you will later register yourself on LOIS, the LSCC Online Interactive Services.

Sumter campus students should contact that campus at the number below for information about NSO and advising.

All new First–Time-In-College (FTIC) students seeking a degree or certificate and all Dual Enrollment (DE) students are required to participate in NSO prior to self-registration for classes. Transfer and returning students are encouraged, but not required, to participate. The 3-hour NSO sessions are held on all three campuses at a variety of days and times. After completing the admissions application process, students must pre-register for New Student Orientation. We are unable to accommodate walk-ins.

Prior to attending NSO, students must complete placement testing. If you are exempt from taking the CPT, based on ACT or SAT scores, your official scores must have been received in the Admissions Office.

To pre-register for New Student Orientation, contact the campus at which you prefer to attend NSO:
