New Student Orientation (NSO) & First Semester Advising

The initial segment of our NSO program takes place online.  In the comfort of your home, you will review key concepts and policies that students need to know to navigate college life at LSCC successfully.  A pre and post test survey is given during this segment to help you identify what you have learned from the online portion of the program, and you will use these results as your “ticket” into the next component of orientation - the Live Advising Segment of NSO. 

During the live advising segment, you will learn how to utilize LSCC online tools including LOIS, Laker Mail, and the online course schedule.  You will also receive a personalized academic advising guide to help you plan for your first semester of classes.  The live segment of NSO will also provide you with an opportunity to make valuable personal connections with other students as well as to interact with members of the Academic and Career Advising staff. 

First–Time-In-College (FTIC) or Dual Enrollment (DE) students are required to complete NSO prior to self-registering for classes.  College or University Transfer Students are encouraged but not required to participate in NSO.

The Initial Online Segment of NSO

This segment is completed entirely on-line.  To access the online portion go to www.lscc.edu/vnso. Please note that the Online Segment of NSO must be completed before you attend the live advising segment of NSO. 

Once you have accessed the Online NSO website, you will need to do the following:

1. Complete a pre test survey called the “Getting Started Survey”! At the end of the survey– print your quiz results
2. Go through the entire presentation – at your own pace
3. Complete a post test survey called the “Wrap Up Survey”!  At the end of the survey– print your quiz results
4. Staple the two printouts together, write your name on the top of page 1 and add your LSCC X-ID number
5. You must bring your survey printouts to the NSO-LIVE Advising Segment
6. Students who have not yet completed the Online NSO segment are not ready for the NSO-Live Advising Segment.  Therefore, if you do not have your survey printouts with you when you check into the Live Segment, you will be asked to reschedule.

BEFORE attending New Student Orientation:

• Apply for Financial Aid, if needed.
• Complete and submit the LSCC Application for Admission.
• Submit all required documents to the Admissions Office.
• Take the Placement Test or submit SAT or ACT test scores that meet exemption criteria.
• Pre-register for NSO LIVE – a New Student Orientation Session at a campus close to you.
• Go to www.lscc.edu/vnso and complete the HYBRID-NSO segment, print the results of the pre test survey called the “Getting Started Survey”! and post test survey called the “Wrap Up Survey”
