SGA Officers Qualifications: You must maintain at least 6 credit hours with a cumulative 2.0 GPA and be a student in good standing (as defined by the LSCC catalog). You must complete an application with two letters of recommendation. Once your completed application has been reviewed and your standing verified, you will be required to have an interview. A committee will select the best qualified applicants from the pool. As an officer, you will then serve the entire year pending completion of the required duties and expectations determined by the Student Activities Coordinator. Stipend: The amount of the scholarship is $600 per year: half is received at the end of the Fall Term and the other half at the end of the Spring Term. You will only receive these checks if you have met the qualifications for an SGA officer and have served the expected number of hours. Hours: Each SGA officer is required to serve four office hours each week for the Fall & Spring terms. These hours are flexible around your work/school schedule and are in addition to scheduled meeting times. You will need to keep track of your hours and turn them in on the time sheet provided. Officers must submit a time sheet documenting their hours for each semester to their Advisor in order to receive the scholarship/stipend. Failure to fulfill the minimum weekly requirement of hours will be reflected in a proration. Meetings: SGA meetings are held weekly at each campus. Once a month the campus SGAs will come together for a district/college meeting. Officers are required to attend both their campus and the district SGA meetings. In addition to this, LSCC SGA is involved with the Florida Junior and Community College Student Government Organization. FJCCSGA holds different meetings and conferences throughout the year. All officers are encouraged to participate in these events as their academic schedule allows. Attendance: Attending meetings and SGA sponsored events are a requirement for holding an officer position. If you are unable to attend a scheduled meeting or event, it is your responsibility to contact your SGA Advisor and campus SGA Secretary at least three days prior to the event or meeting at least 3 days in advance. Absences with less than 3 days advance notice will be considered unexcused. Officers will be permitted 3 excused and 3 unexcused absences for the year. After 2 unexcused (or 4 total) absences, officers will be required to meet with the SGA Advisor. After 3 unexcused (or 6 total absences), an officer may be impeached or relieved of his or her position. Behavior: As an SGA officer, you are a representative of LSCC and the student body. Remember you were selected because you exemplify the leadership skills and abilities. Professionalism is required at all times. Qualities including punctuality, cooperation, dependability, courtesy, diplomacy, neatness, self-respect and integrity are expected of everyone. Behavior bringing discredit to the college and/or student body will not be tolerated. Knowledge: You are expected to be familiar with college policies, as well as the SGA Constitution and Student Activities operating procedures. You must become an expert on these topics. Please be familiar with the college catalog, SCOPE manual, and other pertinent materials related to SGA at LSCC. Job Responsibilities: Each officer serves a unique role in the oversight of the SGA. Officers should be familiar with the particular duties and responsibilities assigned to their position. Each officer must take an active role in ensuring these duties and responsibilities are completed to the best of his or her ability. Advisor's Role: Leadership is a learning experience, and your Advisor is there to help you grow and develop in these areas. Please feel free to contact your Advisors in regards to questions, concerns or resources needed as an SGA officer. Contact: E-mail will be the primary means of communication from the Coordinator or Advisors to you. SGA officers will also have mailboxes located at their campuses. It is your responsibility to make sure you are aware of upcoming events by checking your e-mail and mailbox weekly. Evaluation: SGA officers will receive an evaluation each term or semester to assess their job performance. Your SGA Advisor will provide written assessment and meet with each student to help maximize his or her skills as a campus leader. A written resignation should be submitted to the SGA Advisor if a student decides that he or she no longer wishes to continue as an officer. Likewise, if an officer does not fulfill his or her duties successfully after sufficient notice from the Advisor, he or she may be subject to suspension and ultimately termination. All Officers are welcome to discuss their performance with their Advisor if they have questions or concerns. The goal is to help students in successfully achieving their goals and maximizing their leadership skills. Officer Descriptions |
