Diplomats
Campus Diplomats are student leaders who provide a significant service to Lake-Sumter Community College. All students are selected based on their excellent communication skills, personal qualities, and leadership potential. The Campus Diplomat program provides opportunities for student leadership development through service to LSCC. Campus Diplomats are sponsored by the Student Life Office and are dedicated to orienting new students to the college.
Qualifications
Campus Diplomats must be currently enrolled as students at Lake-Sumter Community College and maintain a cumulative and semester GPA of 2.0 or higher. Diplomats must also have completed 6 college credits and maintain a minimum of 6 credit hours enrollment. Diplomats must be students in good standing as defined by the Lake-Sumter Community College catalog.
Selection Process All Diplomats must complete an application, submit two letters of recommendation, and complete an appointment interview. A committee will select the best-qualified applicants from the pool. As a Diplomat, you will then serve the entire year pending completion of the required duties and a satisfactory student evaluation as determined by the Student Life Office. Once a student has been selected for the Campus Diplomat program they may continue in the program as long as he or she meets the academic and performance standards
Stipend The amount of the scholarship is $600 per year: half is received at the end of the Fall Term and the other half at the end of the Spring Term. You will only receive these checks if you have met the qualifications for an SGA officer and have served the expected number of hours.
Diplomats are expected to be able to demonstrate the following skills:
- Effective oral and written communication skills
- Team player able to maintain good working relations with students, faculty and staff.
- Solid organizational and leadership abilities with the ability to multi-task
- Event planning
Diplomats are expected to be able to demonstrate the following qualities:
- Punctual, reliable
- Professional; neatly and uniformly dressed
- Pleasant and courteous disposition; easy to approach
- Self-motivated; self-starter
Service Hours
Each semester Campus Diplomats are required to serve a minimum of 70 hours. Service hours are acquired by assisting at orientations, working special events, planning and carrying out Student Life events, and service projects. Our goal is to provide service throughout the year as part of a team of caring, community-conscious student leaders.
Scholarship
Students who meet stated requirements are eligible to receive a $600 scholarship each semester. The money comes from Financial Aid and disbursement is determined by a students eligibility and meeting the commitments of the position. Dual Enrollment students may not receive scholarship funds.
